Had dinner with Collier (our SGA pres), Tarno (VP), Mary and Tarno's girlfriend Casey tonight. It was nice - good company and good conversation. We were able to kick back and alternately discuss some pretty serious issues and some lighter ones.
Got my new bass - it rocks.
Classes over - thanks God.
See you all soon! |

Apartment was confirmed - we can move in as early as April 20. We won't until at least May 1 because we don't want to pay April's rent, and I myself might not until May 4 because that's the last day of finals (and I don't know my schedule yet). ANyway, prepare for a housewarming bash!
Speaking of bash, congrats to Eagles FM for finally making low-power. All Riddle kids - bash at Fuel on Friday, where Mary Cloutier and I will be celebrating our birthdays (22 and 20 respectively).
Spring break is almost here! Two more days of classes, 5 days until I fly home.
Catch you all later - dinner time. |

If there is one person you can't stop thinking about, post this same exact sentence in your journal.
OK, now that that's done,
1.) Jon (me) is tearing through Grandia II in an effort to finish before spring break.
2.) John (roommate) just conquered Resident Evil 4, complete with an audience of myself, Derek and Josin.
3.) To stop the questions, my last day of classes is March 18. Yes, I am well aware that that is the day before my birthday, and no, I don't know what I'm doing yet. There's suite talk of us going to Disney World. Wes has never been there. Maybe that's because it's just for happy people. :P I'm coming home Monday, March 21 and will be home until the afternoon of Saturday, March 26. And yes, pictures are still on for all interested.
4.) Speaking of which, here's a running list of ideas I had: a) the group shot of everyone with instruments b) individual instrument shots that I will later photoshop into cool group collection shots c) an idea I had for Meg - that picture of the girl that looks like her in the lake? I'll one-up it and make her an ANGEL complete with wing. If ariel is home I coul make a good devil-child out of her, too d) good & evil shots - can play with this one a lot, but the essence is on innocent image overlayed onto one of the same person that is discernably darker e) fight scenes *giant grin* that could be fun If you guys come up with any more - bring 'em on!
5.) Avion non-production nights are fun... my comic this week will explain it nicely for you guys. ("DADDY!")
6.) By the way, to all my gals back home - I MISS YOU! |

1.) Two artists you probably never heard of but are pretty good
Jennifer Daniels (folk) Shinedown (rock)
2.) Got a five-string bass... this thing is WICKED!

3.) Getting an iMac sometime soon.
4.) If you are going to give a fake name to a reporter at an accident scene: a. make sure that if you are Hispanic you don't pick a Scottish name b. give him the same name when he asks again c. don't pick both your names from famous movies d. make sure that there's not an open record of the accident (I love stupid people) |

[Mar. 1st, 2005|12:25 am] |
So, my local news page finally made it into the paper - "Metro News" on A3. Sweetness.
San Fran conference was cool. Shyam and Tom went to a gay bar by mistake and I walked from one end of the city to the other. Two days was not enough. It was awesome but unless you are a journalism nut like me if I posted it all it wouldn't make much sense.
Interviwing Chancellor Watret tomorrow and Safety Director Mannix on Wednesday. Good times.
Been thoughtful a lot lately. Not sure why. Had one of those "what do I want to do with my life" moments and got thinking of my ideal job, ideal house, ideal wife, yadda yadda yadda. It helps to know what (or, in the final case, whom) you are after. Any potential ladies out there? ;)

Deep thought of the day: Is it better to be the left hand of God or the right hand of evil?
To elaborate, is it better to be a mostly "good" person tasked to do "evil" deeds to further the cause of "good," or is it somehow more righteous for a "bad" person do do "bad" deeds but have a "good" heart and somehow bring about a state of "good"?
So much for that. |

| [ | mood |

| | the angry sound of silenced | ] | I try pretty damn hard too. I try to be a good student, a good journalist, a good leader; generally, whatever role I'm in I try to be at least what qualifies as "good" if I can't be "great," which in many cases is what I have to settle for because "great" is out of my reach.
But before I am a student, a leader, or even a journalist, I am a friend. In no other area do I try harder. I've lost a night's sleep over a test, over my team, and over a deadline, but I have lost weeks' worth because of my friends. I try my best. I have my shortcomings. I'm human. Sorry to disappoint you.
And then come the parts when I have friends on two sides of an issue. People expect me to be able to take both extremes at once and I end up falling square in the middle, not opposed to either side but damned because I'm not totally on a side. So I end up losing two friends because neither can accept my dealings with the other.
I try my best. If that's not good enough for you to accept, so be it. I will miss you dearly, but I will NOT let YOU tell ME that I'M not good enough.
I'm not perfect, I accept that. But I believe I am a decent man who does his best, and I will not let anyone tell me that all I have simply isn't worthy of their friendship.
Don't even bother asking me who this is for; you know who you all are. |

Some words of wisdom for a few people (aka the reason I decided to post again). You all will know who you are:
To my climbing partner: You did great. I would never have made it that far without you too, remember that. If you ever need your rope held (metaphorically or physically), I would be honored.
To the beautiful woman who sells herself short: You are an awesome person. I love you. Never forget that. I am still here for you.
To my one friend left over from grade school: You are better than what you have become. Stop whining and take the leap of faith: it insults me how you think there is no one there for you if you fall.
To the prodigal son of a friend: Whenever you decide to come back, I will be here. I can only speak for myself, but I don't think I'm along. I don't befriend hypocrits.
To the one looking for a set of eyes: Good luck. We may not talk as much this semester, but I'm just too busy to call. Don't get the wrong impression from my silence. |

As for summer, the Lake House week rocked, as did the Evanescence and Projekt Revolution concerts.
Back at the Avion, except now I do even MORE! Besides being News Editor (#3 on the food chain) and Comics Editor, I took over the Campus section after the immortal Mike Marano graduated. Shyam is turning out to be an incredible EIC, and the paper is the best I've ever seen it.
Classes are hectic but ok. Welcome to what Riddle calls "The Hell Semester." Between them and the paper I get maybe two hours of free time a week. It's crazy but fun.
Anyway, time for me to get cranking on Issue 4 - see you guys soon. |

Work work work - jesus. It's nuts. Not that I'm complaining, though. I'm lucky my job was waiting for me when I got back, and my lake house chore list is sort of fun. Which reminds me - Thursday I go into the woods at daybreak and come out with a flagpole by sunset. Hehe.
Hmmm... Shrek 2 is awesome ("Antonio!" -Micki)
Got my car - '98 Taurus SHO with a cool custom hood. $14,500 car for $8,900 - I can deal with that :).
Have an odd craving for sushi... will sate that later.
Anyway, sorry about the lack of updates - haven't really had any other reason to turn the comp on lately. Catch you all later. |

| | High Voltage - Linkin Park | ] | OK, first things first - got the phone replaced, so you can start calling again. Same number as before.
Went to Universal on Wednesday. Saw a girl in a green skirt - crayon box green. Don't think I've ever seen a girl wear that color outside of St. Paddy's Day.
After chilling on Thursday, Mom and I left bright and early Friday and arrived in LaGrange, Georgia at about 4 p.m. so I could spend the night with Barbara. I love that girl - she is just so awesome to talk to. We went to an art show, then to a Japanese steakhouse for dinner (where the chef was quite the show). We watched Dark Crystal (aka Muppets on LSD, but I think Jen has to be a stoner with all those pipes in the beginning), and talked for a few hours. Ironic that one of my best friends was introduced to me by my ex as her best friends, but c'est la vie - irony is nothing new for me.
So Saturday was driving all day - made it home in one day. Go me for driving excessive amounts of time. Mom didn't want to listen to Linkin Park or Nirvana on the way home, but every station she found seemed to be playing them.
Today started on some household chores, played some ball, and went out w/ Trish for a cheesesteak (oh god it felt so good lol). Tomorrow will see some more homecoming work - unpacking, doing all the chores Mom has lined up for me, and such.
Anyway, off to do stuff. It felt really weird sleeping in my own bed last night. |

Gianpaolo made a good point when we were coming back into Doolittle after the movies - "It's only home for a few more days." Cliff got his Nintendo gun back from us... this time next week I'm a few hours from home. As such, a compilation of some of my best memories of freshman year down here is in order.
1) Riding in Kyle's trunk last semester because we had one too many people. He went looking for railroad tracks on the way back. 2) The NYC conference - meeting Bob Mankoff, the cafe, the whole deal. 3) The night we bought the futon and the fun we had. 4) "Good thing Jon's friends are plastic." 5) Late nights at the raquetball courts. 6) Late nights copy-editing at the Avion - including the infamous "boo-tiful" headline. 7) The LP concerts. 8) Buster making me his bitch. 9) Marano, Marano's sister, and me - enough said. 10) The Avioff. 11) "What are you watching?" "Star Wars." "Oh, ok." "Josin, it's Robin Hood." 12) The Dung Beetle. 13) Castration by compact disc. 14) Lucas = Der. 15) Zack falling for Melissa *supresses chuckle* 16) What color is Alex's hair THIS week? 17) "Happens." 18) Why did Jacque sleep in here again? 19) Jeff being convinced I was making a move on his girlfriend. 20) The evolution of my feelings toward the Carmen Electra poster. 21) Cliff and GP moving in together. 22) Jon and Sam at Outback. 23) Denis Leary. 24) The Kelly conversation. 25) Distracting myself in Physics via Thea's optical illusion shirt. 26) Tim wanting to sell parts of a certain small Indian child. 27) Jeff and Alex arguing over Mario. 28) Lucas: "Is he jerking off?" 29) Lucas and myself agreeing on a good thing ;) 30) "I'm... gettin... LAID!"
I'll think of more, I'm sure... Mom gets down here tomorrow... see ya later! |
